Call Swifties, there’s a new Booktok plot
If you’ve heard this, stop me: Your debut novel is going viral on Booktok. The lack of information about the author has prompted speculation and conspiracy theories from readers. Here’s the deal: Dani Francis’ Silver Elite cover does not have a photo of the author. Not so either Francis’ Instagram page. The lack of details drives some Booktok creators and speculates that Dani Francis is indeed the pen name of the established author. Or maybe a book written by AI! Why do publishers bother the edge of foil and special editions when they are not already secretly written by famous people? Like most conspiracy controversies, it is almost guaranteed that the truth is far less exciting than theory. (Did we really learn anything? Aga Shenanigans? ) If the most interesting thing about a book is the anonymity of the author, it is when both the publishing and the reader look closely at the mirror.
How Taylor Jenkins Reed hit the escape speed
If the prepub press of the vibe of Taylor Jenkins Reed’s new novel scheduled for June 3rd is any indication, we’ll ride. With a wide range of profiles timeJenkins Reed discusses the tension between the surreality of being a one-night success with her fifth book, the critical acclaim of commercial success and cravings, the economics of publication, and (for me) the Jukebox China musical she is working on with longtime friends. “I argue that writing a book that’s easy to read is extremely difficult. She has to think about the reader’s experiences on every page. “I’m chasing the feelings,” she says. Maybe I’m just having fun. ”
It’s refreshing to see the author understand where the author is, where the book’s larger ecosystem and reading work is, without slandering other writers, genres, and styles. I would like something like this.
Fantasy novel for everyone who feels betrayed by JK Rowling
I can’t imagine anyone more qualified than Danica Ellis to make this declaration, so I’ll let her do it:
I’ve finished it, so I can say this was a five-star read that would absolutely hold its own regardless of the Harry Potter series or JK Rowling’s response to transphobia, but it also succeeds on that level. The series is about children, and the book is about adults discovering their magic. Instead of Hogwarts, this setting is New York City. And of course, this has a trance protagonist.
If you want to read a fantasy novel about the deal that the Trans Witches will take on evil AI, this is for you.
