As we continue to recover from the pandemic and return to communal living, it feels like a combination of disillusionment with technology and a desire for more and deeper in-person connections is in the air right now. I’m sure there are naysayers (perhaps on the thread) who lament the use of books as accessories and status symbols, but for me, I’m glad to see the literary life presented as an aspiration.

Don DeLillo’s Hockey Romance to be republished

I can’t think of a recent headline that made me more happy than Alexandra Alter’s discovery in 1980 that Don DeLillo wrote hockey romances under a different name. Amazons sounds like a hell of a ride, and I’m happy again to hear that Scribner is bringing it back this fall. The price of used books soared after Alter’s article was published in January, and after much coaxing, DeLillo, who had refused to reprint the book for decades, relented. The reprint will be published on November 17th under Mr. DeLillo’s original pen name, Cleo Bardwell. The new subheading for Alter’s reprint simply says, “You’re welcome.” can’t wait.

do homework

I have never read Elijah Wood. lord of the rings. The actor told Stephen Colbert that he recently started reading the series. That makes a lot of sense, but I’d like to take this opportunity to say that if you’re going to star in a movie adaptation, you need to read the original story. I know we’re negative about the idea of public shaming, but can we bring it back, especially with this? If you’re going to spend millions of dollars on a book-based job without doing your homework, you should at least feel uncomfortable admitting it in public. Come on, hey.

too many books

Can you guess how many new books will be published in 2025? No matter what you think, you should probably add a zero. On today’s Book Riot Podcast, Jeff and I delve into the latest data, discuss recent adaptation announcements, and chat with Louise Erdrich about her new book, Python’s Kiss.
