Public libraries grapple with e-book pricing
Organizations representing a wide range of public libraries in the United States and Canada have signed a letter calling on the five largest publishers to improve their e-book pricing models. Kate Laughlin, executive director of the Association of Small Local Libraries, said current costs have become unsustainable, if not completely unsustainable, especially for small libraries. The group argues that patrons, publishers and libraries will benefit from open, solution-driven conversations at a time when the use of digital distribution is rapidly increasing and audiobooks and e-books cost more than physical copies.
