52 Book Club Beach Read Challenge
What’s the deal? Want to turn your summer reading into a game? 52 Book Club’s Beach Read Challenge is an actual board game. The board includes 24 prompts to help you read through 24 books over the summer. However, the prompt has an even more fun twist. Before you start playing, write six different genres on your genre card. These can be any genre, but you must complete all 24 challenges using only these genres, so choose them strategically. Otherwise, this can be quite a challenge (but hey, that’s probably what you want and that’s okay too!).
Once you’ve selected your six genres, you move around the game board by rolling a six-sided die to reach different prompts. The goal is to eventually complete all the prompts on the board, so once you complete one, you’ll skip that space and move on. When you reach the prompt, match the number on the die to the number on the genre card. You must read this genre to complete this prompt. For example, if you roll a 6 and land on the prompt “Featuring Island Countries,” you must read a book that features Island Countries. Next, look at the genre cards. Whatever the sixth genre is, that’s the genre you’ll read to complete the prompt. So, for example, if the card 6 is Historical Fiction, you should read historical fiction set in an island country.
Check out the website for a complete list of rules or The 52 Book Club’s YouTube channel for video tutorials.
How long will it run? This challenge is designed to be completed in June, July, and August, but feel free to take it any time of the year.
Tracking method my reading? Download and print this awesome logbook to keep track of all your summer reading. This includes space for ratings and reviews. Alternatively, you can purchase The 52 Book Club Beach Reads Challenge journal on Amazon.
Are there any prizes? No, there are no official prizes for this particular challenge, but feel free to buy us a pizza when you finish. And the best prize of all is that I read a lot of really great books.
