The Dungeon Book by Gareth Hanrahan (Orbit, August 11)
A few months ago, someone told me to add this to my TBR. I can’t remember who it was now, but at least I remember this book. That’s great. Because I think that’s very gratifying. The story is about a young girl who is imprisoned in a dungeon and befriends the creatures who live with her underground. And it’s all told by a talking skull named Cornelius.

“The Inevitable Doom of Zahara Douglas” by Leslie Penelope (Red Hook, August 11)
Since this is set in the 1990s, it could technically be classified as historical fantasy. (LOL) After witnessing the kidnapping of her twin sister, Annika, Zahara’s world shifts to a timeline where her sister never existed, and Zahara is the only one who remembers her. Five years later, during the Y2K Panic, Zahara thinks she has finally found a way to prove Anika is real.

The Divine Gardener’s Handbook: Or What To Do If Your Girlfriend Accently Turn Off the Sun by Eli Snow (Saturday Books, August 18)
I couldn’t pass up a clickbait title like this, so I read this as soon as the ARC landed in my lap. This is a truly fun and imaginative story about an underworld, a pageant of flowers, rivals to friends, and gods. I can’t wait to read what Eli Snow has to teach us next! And the physical version of this book is So It’s gorgeous – flowers everywhere!

If you want to know more about books, I talk about them almost nonstop (even when I’m not reading them). You can hear me say lots of adjectives about books on the Book Riot podcast. All books! And also on Instagram.
