Disability Rights Activist and Author Alice Wong Has Passed Away
Pioneering author and disability rights activist Alice Wong passed away on Friday, November 14th after an infection.
Books written and edited by Wong, including Year of the Tiger: An Activist’s Life, the Intimacy of Disability, and the Visualization of Disability: First-Person Narratives in the 21st Century, detail the lived experiences of people with disabilities and how Wong himself turned the righteous anger of being bullied and discriminated against into advocacy.
Wong founded the Disability Visibility Project in 2014 and was named a MacArthur Genius Fellow last year.
Last weekend, Wong’s friend Sandy Ho posted a farewell message on Instagram at Wong’s request.
