Books, pizza, magic

The owner of the mother-daughter at an indie bookstore in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood has launched a summer reading program after the hearts of millennials. DA Book Joint’s Readup Challenge invites K-12 students to read at least three books a month to get free personal bread pizza from local spot Reggio pizza. To qualify for the Pizza Award, participating students must record their books on the DA BookJoint website and participate in the monthly meetup at Ledgio. The program’s emphasis on community connections grows from the desire of DA Book co-owners to support literacy efforts and build partnerships with other local, black-owned businesses that share values. May their efforts succeed!

The best new book of the week

Another stacked list of new releases on another summer Tuesday. Among the best new books of the week is Toni, one of the most anticipated readings of the year about Toni Morrison’s work as Random House editor. I can’t wait to get my hands on the book Mobius, Catherine Lacey’s latest experimental product.
