Did the European version just spoil Monday’s Booker Prize announcement?

The Booker Prize, the world’s most prestigious English-language book award, will be announced on Monday. I don’t think publishers can know in advance whether their book will win an award or not. But if they do, they might try to get a special edition of the book with stickers and logos on shelves soon. If I did that, wouldn’t it look like this? Someone on IG (thank you!) sent this to us and it seems really… questionable.

Amazon introduces Kindle translation

I’ve been waiting for news like this to drop. AI is pretty good at translation. Not as much as a skilled human, but unlike a skilled human, it’s very fast and really, really cheap. And in the case of Amazon’s new Kindle Translate, it looks like it may be free, at least for authors using Kindle Direct. The beta program allows translation from English to Spanish and from German to English (who knows why?). On the plus side, there are thousands of books that would never be translated without this method because the cost of hiring a human translator is too high. The downside is that as LLM improves and readers and writers become more comfortable with it, such programs put the paid labor of professional translators at risk.

Grammy Award “Audiobook of the Year” Nominated Work

It is also known as having an audiobook by a celebrity or having an audiobook about the year’s music awards. Snooze.
