Happy birthday to this beloved Beverly Clear Character
As my youngest daughter, Ramona Kinby was the Beverly Clear character I love the most and most related to. My sister was the eldest son and whenever I needed to remind her that dealing with her interfering sister is a real trial, I pointed out the troubled beehive (which was very often necessary). I’m sure Henry Huggins would have joined the bookshelves crew if he had siblings, but I didn’t understand the little boys around me and almost frowned, so I didn’t read about the life of Ramona’s neighbor’s neighbor. Still, Cleary deserves attention for making all her characters surprisingly accessible, and Henry was absolutely that. Especially for children like me, low- and middle-income families at a certain time, these characters, their hardships, and even the views of what parents dealt with from a childlike but highly observational perspective reflect our living experiences. So I joined NPR and had a very happy birthday to Henry Huggins, helping many kids feel seen and understood.

For librarians lol
Crow murder. Owl Parliament. Why not have a collective noun for a librarian? McSweeney’s ask? If you need a big laugh, check it out here. My favorite is “A group of people who only remember “the cover was blue” are called patrons,” but in our time there is also a lolsob noun.
According to all lists, this week’s bestseller books
I’d like to know which books are hits on the BestSellers list this week (Katabasis was on multiple lists, of course)? We have you covered.
