It’s not actually the midpoint of the year – we still need to get through June – but that hasn’t stopped Goodreads and others from publishing a list of the best books of the year. Book Riot will withhold it until July, as appropriate. But in the meantime, you can check out the list of the most read books on Goodreads in 2025 (so far) and the list of the most popular new books on Goodreads in 2025 (so far).

The most read list consists of 144 book covers separated by genre, but the most popular new book list has some explanations for each title. The 51 selected books are also sorted by genre by contemporary fiction, historical fiction, romance novels, mystery & thrillers, fantasy novels, romantic novels, sci-fi novels, horror novels, young adult novels, memoirs, history & biography, and general non-fiction.

All included books will be published in 2025 and will be selected according to the number of Goodreads users have read or marked them want to read. These are just a few of the books featured.
