Booktok Travel is ready for takeoff

Focusing on experience trips for ages 18-35, EF Ultimate Break has launched a new series of trips inspired by Booktok’s favorites. Citing a recent survey of Gen Z and young millennial travelers who reported 40% were in book clubs, 62% showed interest in destinations that are visited related to books they read. People we meet on vacationand leads readers of history-loving Percy Jackson around ancient ruins in Rome, Athens and Cairo. The “focused on literary community building” trip includes book club discussions, experiences on topics related to source material, and visits to literary destinations.

This is not the first travel agency to offer book-inspired tours. John Shoals Travel has hosted a “pilgrimage” that takes readers to tours with his longtime favorite writers and hosts “pilgrimage” that encourages travelers to “meaning through secular texts.” It’s a wise move, especially at the moment when 60% of Gen Z adults spend at least four hours a day on social media, and almost half of the wishes weren’t invented by Tiktok. There’s nothing you’ll want to throw your phone into the ocean more than an immersive experience in the world with people you feel truly connected. If Booktok can be a vehicle for that, call it a win.

Bookshop.org sales are rising sharply

I’ll grab my butt. Bookshop.org reported sales of 65% year-on-year in the first half of 2025. This is always an eye-opening number, but it’s particularly noteworthy as industry-wide sales have declined so far this year. CEO Andy Hunter attributes $1 million (5% of total sales) of additional revenues from the recent anti-prime sale, compared to a better rate than the base rate on Bookshop.org, which launched in January. What’s the rest of the growth? My best guess is that anti-Amazon sentiment and consumer boycotts have reached a turning point with things like left-leaning middle-class and upper-class readers who can be willing to pay premiums to avoid supporting companies that contradict personal and political values. And it’s not harmful that inflation and tariffs appear to have reduced Amazon’s ability to offer deeper discounts and faster shipping than other retailers.
