Please note that we are doing a big deal for this small press.
Over the past few years I have tried to load more translations, but I have found experience reading books that are not written for English-speaking audiences. This is one of many reasons why we support the continued success of the inclined axis, the small publisher that brings titles to the US this year. Tilted Axis publishes works of the type of translation that tend to be ignored by larger publishing homes and homes, who do not want to take risks to work that does not fit a particular type. The tilted axis, meanwhile, reveals more different Asian works, including queer and feminist readings, and looks beyond white academia when it comes to the translators themselves. They are working to broaden their publishing horizons, not only to acquire works that are not accessible to previous English-speaking readers. The publisher’s willingness to take risks was rewarded with an award-winning critically acclaimed book. They are notable publishers and I personally look forward to checking out their catalogues. If you need a reason to read more of the translation work, here is this from the publisher Kristen Vida Alfaro, Tilted Axis.
At a moment when nationalism and isolationism is rising in both Europe and the US, I feel that the windows that literature can offer to other cultures are essential, Alfaro said.
“What we publish and what we create is exactly what this climate is trying to eradicate,” she said.

Don’t ruin Dolly
Funding for Imaginary Library, Dolly Parton’s program to encourage early literacy by sending free books every month to children under five, is not an Indiana budget. Indiana had previously supported the program, but Parton was inspired by his father’s inability to read and write through a fundraising game in 1995. Over the past two years, the imaginary library has reached over 125,000 children in Indiana alone. Inviting Indiana Gov. Mike Brown to reconsider, Parton said:
“The beauty of an imaginary library is to bring us all together, as every child deserves the opportunity to dream big and succeed.”
With our literacy declining, we were able to use all the help we could get.
Proposal of Anti-Book Prohibition Law 2025
This year, we will be showing up to help states with anti-book ban bills that were proposed in Congress to stay up to date, protect access to LGBTQ+, BIPOC and other books, lend a voice and support these bills .
