Cheesecake by Mark Klansky
You may know Kurlansky in his non-fiction food writing, but his latest one is covered in novels about the Manhattan community who is obsessed with ancient cheesecake recipes.
It is West 86th Avenue in the 1970s. People love their delicious local dessert options, but this even grows true with the arrival of the Katzcase. They are Greek family and are opening a new restaurant that brings Kato, the recipe for the elder’s 234 BCE cheesecake. The goal was to attract “high-end” diners, but the cheesecake was a hit with everyone. As a result, Art Caticus begins to use his family’s new wealth to buy local real estate, and forever transforms the landscape of this block on West 86th Street.
It’s a bit of a slice and many Seas of Cheesecakes.
