Indians, especially young people in India, are energizing the festival of books, and there is a growing interest in reading books in their native language. If these festivals once exhibited primarily English literature, they now highlight writers who write in languages such as Telugu and Malayalam. Often free festivals give these younger generations of Indians the opportunity to hear and speak from well-known and bestselling authors around the world. Participants and organizers of the panel shared a meme that leads to big sales for volunteers clearing garbage from the beach to host the Kerala Festival, participants who want to make reading more comprehensive, and local authors. It warms the heart.

Major writing programs lose federal funding
The University of Iowa International Writing Program is notified of losing federal funds to support Summer Youth Program, Distance Learning Courses, Emergency Voice Mentorship Program, and other programs. In its notice to the IWP, the US Department of State wrote that the award does not align with “agent priorities and national interests.” IWP participants Han Kang, Orhan Pamuk and Mo Yan have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. To see it as a valuable and rich programme that works to bridge the gap between culture and place is more than discouraged to be deprived of the ability to continue doing good work. I know that in 2025 we can’t do anything but rhetorical, but if it’s not in national interest, what?
