Booksology A very cool person will direct a very cool book
If you haven’t seen Past lifeyou really should. The romantic drama stars Greta Lee, who has featured this singular and powerful restraint in her stream. studio (A must-see again), “oner.” So I jumped over the news that Lee is taking her unique perspective into the director’s chair for the adaptation of Monica Kim’s psychological horror novel “The Eyes Is the Best Part.” This book and its bloody covers were everywhere last year. It was released in June 2024, so the production shift for this adaptation was quick! Lee is also writing the script, but I can’t wait to see what she does in this feminist serial killer story.

Some sad news
I want to take a little time to shed some light on one of the people who worked on improving publishing behind the scenes. Children’s book publisher Katie Cunningham passed away over the weekend of a complication of ovarian cancer. I’m a huge fan of Candlewick Press and everything they did to make children’s books more inclusive, Cunningham, who went from publisher and assistant to SVP for 20 years, was heavily invested in that mission by all accounts. She worked with Kareem Abdul Jabbar on his NAACP Image Award-winning children’s book. Learn more about her life, her work, and where you can send donations to her memory here.
