S&S launches Audio First imprint

Simon & Schuster launches audio-first publication Simon Maverick with Jason Pinter (formerly Polis Books) as vice president and editorial director. The engraving schedule is generally In collaboration with self-published authors, generally Create an original audiobook. This doesn’t seem to be an all-or-nothing scheme when it comes to audio and authors, so there’s a lot of pretty much everyone here. Pinter is always open to opportunities to print works under the Maverick banner or to carry books by S&S authors in other departments. Combine this with a focus on self-published works and audio formats to quickly bring unrepresented work to a ready and willing readership in genres where S&S has had success (ahem, romance). It’s not hard to see this as a business model that has surfaced and can be mass-produced. To listen to your favorite stories in audio format and X Gain fans who may not know the author but have a strong interest in the genre. And if audiobooks take off, Simon Maverick will soon set up the framework to pivot to print. The imprint already plans to publish at least 50 titles this year.

French author who predicted the rise of audiobooks and podcasts

Here are some fun pieces from history book geeks that are perfect for Fridays. Open Culture featured a French writer who foresaw today’s panic headlines with a story called “The End of the Book.” I love visiting old texts that seem to predict our time, but I think this headline is stupid, based on the premise that audiobooks are not books and therefore can be the end of books. But I was pleased with the illustration of a 19th century flâneur stretching his legs while engrossed in a true crime podcast. Although Octave Husanne didn’t specifically predict podcasts, much less an obsession with true crime, his explanation is pretty spot on.

“At home, walking, sightseeing,” says the bibliophile. It nourishes the mind while strengthening the muscles. ”

What you need to know about BookLook, RatedBooks, and other non-specialist book “review” sites

To say that not all book sites are good book sites is an understatement when it comes to censorship devices masquerading as review platforms. Some libraries are using these sites, one created by a former Mamas for Liberty member and another by an even more dangerous group aimed at spreading bigotry. I did. Learn more about these sites and how they’re impacting communities across the country.
