Is this love? By Cedella Marley and Aleah Marley
This song is based on Bob Marley’s lyrics. Is this love? by his eldest son Cedella. This story depicts the sisters growing up as best friends, creating a heart-melting and gentle atmosphere. The older child teaches her younger sister how to build with blocks, use a hula hoop, and ride a bicycle. Using such examples, the book gently depicts how families love and support each other.

Preparing for Valentine’s Day by Vera Ahiyya and Debby Rahmalia
In this detailed Valentine’s Day story, children make friendship cards and are reminded by their teacher to make one for each classmate. Overall, I like the holiday-celebrating version of this book. It’s kinder, more thoughtful, and more inclusive. This is the perfect book for Valentine’s Day!

Mirabell’s Missing Valentine by Janet Lawler and Olivia Chin Mueller
Mirabelle is a shy little cat who gets nervous and shakes at the idea of handing out valentines. On her way to school with her handmade Valentines in her bag, she misplaces them. Neighbors gratefully pick up the dropped card, but when they realize it’s gone and become upset, kind neighbors return it to them. Ultimately, Mirabel’s interactions with the community gave her the courage to pass the cards on to her classmates. It definitely gives you the warm fuzzies.

We All Love Written by Julie Flett (Released February 26, 2026)
Flett’s gorgeous art reveals the ways animals and children show love. The big turtle rolls the stuck little turtle off its back, while the children hang upside down from a tree and play in each other’s arms. Rabbits huddle in their burrows and grandparents sit by the campfire with their two children. The text in English and Cree is minimal, so it’s perfect for toddlers and older babies, and a gentle way to explain love.

Bobby and the Big Valentine by Timmy Wojtas, Adi Rivera Sonda
The art is vibrant and charming in this story of a little boy named Bobby who wants to make a Valentine’s Day card for his beloved best friend Eddie. However, he worries that his love for Eddie is not mutual, but spoiler alert. This is a wholesome and heartwarming picture book of hope.
These five Valentine’s Day books are perfect for introducing children to the concepts of love and kindness. Although we are living in difficult times, I hope your holidays are filled with goodwill and compassion.
