I Sincerely Hope This is Not the Future of Media

So when I read the future of media that focuses on how people pay for things, I adjust. They pay for it (subscription, individual products, experience) or someone borrows the attention you get for it (advertising, affiliate marketing, brand deals, etc.). Currently, the second step is the most difficult. Algorithms controlled by fantastically powerful technological platforms are very dominant about how people know things, especially the media. If you can ride that dragon, it’s very easy to make money! However, riding a dragon is an unpleasant and unpleasant business.

Queerwriting Awards See Adopted Authors withdraw from consideration

Many authors nominated for the Polari Award have withdrawn their names from consideration in protest of the inclusion of John Boyne as their nominee. Boune is publicly aligned with JK Rowling’s indifferent transphobia. And it’s something to come as a surprise to everyone, and this is really not cool for many people. Drawing your name from considerations is an underrated mode of resistance, especially within groups you may feel naturally matched.

Best Use Case I’ve Still Seen with AI

This summer I visited several incredible research libraries. However, I had no time or qualifications to access the collections, so I could only stare at them. Yale’s Bienecke had a moment when it felt more like a spirit us than an easy-to-use archive, in which a truly beautiful library was alive. The book was protected by Jesus, but was locked up. If you only imagine physical access, there is no way around this. And even digitalization alone presents a wealth of problems. How to find something in everything? Authorized, open, carefully managed LLMs can become skeleton keys. Specifically, the idea of an AI agent that is legally and otherwise allowed to do LLM things by the library is truly strange.
