guardian and thief It’s becoming an autumn IT book.
I thought it might be the new Lockwood. Or the new Flournois. Or the new Desai. But it seems very possible that Megan Majumdar’s The Guardian and the Thief will be a fall book. Oprah’s nominations and the National Book Award and Kirkus Award finalist slots are about what you’d expect from a literary title. This was a late pick from Rebecca Shinski of the 2025 Fantasy Book League, but it could be the difference. I am very happy for everyone involved. No, really. At least I included this book in my October IT Books Showdown.

Lit Hub celebrates 10th anniversary by gifting 58 recommended books to the internet
Surviving for 10 years as an independent media company, especially in the book space, is no mean feat. And to celebrate our 70th anniversary (one year on the internet is like seven years in real life), Lit Hub asked literary people for book recommendations. They range from well-known classics like Anna Karenina to ones like Laszlo Kraznahorkai, which was definitely submitted before the Nobel Prize was announced. Worth a look.
Wait, is this the opposite of “Enshittification”?
LibraryThing didn’t want an AI bot to scrape the site and pull in all the user reviews. So they created a custom human authentication popup that was super fun.
