It’s going to leave a mark

A slow applause to boldly enter Frey (I see myself) in a review next door to heaven where Katie Waldman declares, “James Frey’s new cancelled sex novel is so bad I can hear.”

Frey’s fall in 2006 was a result of the production of some of the A million small worksWaldman said, “It appears he has identified with #MeToo’s frustration and adopted the tribal gender politics and attitude.” Attractive. The plot focuses on the Swingers’ Party among a group of people who are even more bored than the wealthy, whom Waldman describes as “a swarm of status symbols that he has ungrammatically stuffed into his barbary trench coat.” Yikes. And while she occasionally gives him credit for writing “lovingly and excited,” she also records that she loves a single sentence paragraph “that suggests he is experiencing a kind of cognitive paper jam.” The hits start and they don’t stop coming. Sometimes, completely negative reviews are real public services, and this may be the headline of the year.

above GuardianFiona Sturges highlights the 10 best audiobooks for summer listening, with refreshing old titles, recent releases and genre variations. I rarely revisit books, but both Tom Lake and James were stars when I read them in print. The possibility of experiencing them through audio performance is quite convincing.
