BOOK REVIEW: ANOTHER DAY IN THE LIFE by Ringo StarrGenesis PublicationsHardcoverOriginally published 2019, re-released 202585%

Ringo takes photos the way he plays drums: no fuss, nothing fancy, just solidly dependable and deceptively simple. Which is a compliment – we don’t subscribe to the folly of undervaluing his contributions to THAT band.

Mr Starr seems a genuinely sweet and lovely man, and this is a sweet and lovely book that does pretty much what it says on the cover: “My life in photos & music.”

You can expect a lot of pictures of love hearts and peace signs, a lot of pictures of his All Starr Band on tour around the world, and a lot of pictures of food, animals, architecture and nature.

If that sounds basic, rest assured it isn’t: Ringo’s eye is caught by things which seem everyday, but in them we can see a bigger picture – a man who has learnt to observe the little things and see the infinite beauty in them.

As David Lynch says in his foreword: “Ringo’s picture book. Ringoism in book form. The essence of Ringo.” It’s about happiness, Lynch argues, and I agree with him. To connect with Ringo’s pictures is to connect with Ringo himself on some small level. And that is definitely a compliment.
