All the Queer Books I Read in November

First up is “All the Books.” There’s Always Next Year by Leah Johnson and George M. Johnson is a cute YA romance with two points of view and two queer romances (M/M and F/F). Almost the entire book takes place on New Year’s Day and felt like a holiday movie for teenagers. If these movies are about queer black teenagers, then so be it.

Curse of the Cole Women by Mariel Thompson was another of my ATB picks. This is an irresistible sapphic gothic novel. The film follows three generations of women who tend a lighthouse on a small island. They are cursed, leaving only two women on call. When the youngest child becomes pregnant, her mother goes into the sea. My favorite story is, of course, the one about two women who fall in love while building a library together in the 1950s. (However, please read the warning about the content of this work. This is by no means a romance novel.)

Thanks to my book club, I finally picked up one of the biggest queer books of the year, Atmosphere: A Love Story by Taylor Jenkins Reid. And yes, I cried. At least 3 times.

For another queer book club I’m a part of (yes, I’m part of two in-person queer book clubs), I chose The Hunger Stone by Kat Dunn. carmilla I think once again that I was looking forward to receiving it. This was a little disappointing. I felt like the first half and second half didn’t mesh very well.

I finally read Volume 2 of “Last Session”. 2 By Jasmine Walls, Micah Myers, and Dozerd Rose. These series follow groups of friends as they play D&D together, with drama unfolding both in-game and on the tabletop. I liked the concept and art of the first volume, but the story just didn’t work for me. It was so much fun that I’m glad I picked up the second book anyway! It follows a group of friends who played together in high school but never made it all the way through the campaign. As adults, they try to get back together to repair their relationship, but first they must resolve the friendship issues that caused them to separate.
