It has become my Thanksgiving tradition to revisit this lovely work by Jeff, published in 2014. I hope this gives you pause to consider the gift of reading in your own life.

There are many things I like about reading. Here are a few things I am especially grateful for.

pleated edges

I finished reading the book just as the train entered the station.

Seeing someone reading their favorite book in public

good beginning

better ending

Mysterious and heartrending inscriptions in old books

Even after rereading my favorites, I still agree with the notes I wrote in the margins.

Reread old favorites and shake your head at how naive you were.

french flap

When the coffee is ready, the light is good, the weather is drizzling, and there’s nothing to do but read a book.

A lively bookstore in the midst of the holidays

Honest, Funny, and Humble Acknowledgments

Remembering and applying what you learned in English class

I forgot to bring a book on the plane, but I found a book I really wanted to read at the bookstore at the airport.

Seeing things in daily life that remind you of what you read

Pick up the classics you were avoiding and love them.

Realizing that there are no rules to reading and no one has the answers.

See the font notes at the end of the book.

No matter how bad the last book you read, know that the next book could be your new favorite.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
