New Spelling Bee Champion Crown

Congratulations to Faizan Zaki, this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion! The 13-year-old from Allen, Texas, took home a cup that fits with the shelves decorations of her grandma’s home goods, but more than that, he insisted on proof. It’s disgusting that every article I read emphasizes the blunder of a humble lightning round. I also love that Zaki’s dad called him a goat. This year’s bees sound like a fun and energetic time. If Spell Bees are your type of sport, if you missed viewing, you can find all the live updates posted during the competition here.

It feels so good to meet again

I have good news for Hamil fans out there – Lynn Manuel Miranda’s original Broadway cast Hamilton This is the reunion of the 78th Annual Tony Awards. It’s been 10 years since the play debuted, but what’s the best place to celebrate than Broadway’s biggest awards ceremony? Miranda will be joined by René Elise Goldsbury, Davede Diggs, Philippa Sue, Leslie Odom Jr., and more performers who have broken the ground in a singular play. I recently re-watched Hamilton And that energy never stops. I fully expect the audience to stand up for this. So, we look back at the difficult, complicated, underdog history of America and remember that we are not, and not monarchy.

How to build a voter guide for public library board elections

If you’re looking for ways to support your local library when your local library is under attack across the country, Kelly Jensen is here to show you how she created a guide to voters for public library committee elections and how she did it. Kelly says:

On April 1, 2025, in an election that consolidated the Illinois elections, I created a voter’s guide to the contested Public Library Board elections. This was not the first plan. I was going to cover all the boards with the election. But the effort was Hercules, even a group of dedicated volunteers, but ultimately not the goal of the guide. So, rather than trying to cover all public library elections with votes, I focused solely on elections where there were more candidates than open positions (i.e. they were contested elections).
