Ali Hazelwood launches a new book

Ali Hazelwood is one of the few authors created in the age of social video. Her next book, Mate, is her first book “companion” novel of Monster’s, a subgenre of her new romance. She writes stem-themed romances featuring clever, successful women of science, both in the wider world and in my own home. I don’t think it happened to me to make connections, but the jump from SCI to SF/fantasy is more of a baby step than a big leap.

Jeff Bezos ordered the opinion section of the Washington Post to do what he wants

From what I’ve heard, Bezos has left Wapo’s news division fully alone. And it appears to be the case today after Jeff Bezos sent a note that announced that the opinion section was dedicated to “free markets and individual freedoms.” There’s nothing I can do to change Bezos’ mind about anything. That’s not what I’m writing about this here. What I’m writing here is that individuals who own huge media companies have turned out to be a rather bad idea. If you have directable subscription dollars, I will urge you to send them to a news organization currently owned by one individual. Public companies are far better. Nonprofits are even better. Propublica rules. Wikipedia can use your bag. If you’re reading a newsletter like this, you’re a relatively small number of people who care about things like this. Go out and subscribe.
