Dark Horse Comics recognizes staff union
Dark Horse joins Seven Seas Publishing and Image Comics as the latest comics publishers to form a union. The company voluntarily recognized the union, with Interim CEO Jay Comas saying, “The path to being a strong dark horse goes through employees who feel heard, respected and truly invested in the company’s future, not employees who feel they have to fight just for attention.” We hope this is the start of a broader movement towards unionization in the publishing industry, especially as AI and the changing media landscape make publishing jobs more precarious.

Robert Munsch’s books are being translated into indigenous languages
Twenty of Robert Munsch’s books have been translated into four Indigenous languages (Tlingit, Southern Tuccione, Northern Tuccione, and Casca) by the Yukon Indigenous Language Center. This isn’t the first time Munsch’s classic Canadian picture book has been made available in an Indigenous language. They had previously been translated into Nehiyawewin (Cree) and Deneshuune (Dene). Munsch also co-authored several books with indigenous illustrators. A promise is a promise and breakfast bear. Both of these were also translated into indigenous languages (Inuktitut and Algonquian, respectively). It’s great to see this, as these resources are invaluable for Indigenous communities to reconnect with their language and culture.
