Bookshop.org sales to grow 55% in 2025 driven by romance and e-books
When it comes to indie bookstores, Bookshop.org reigns supreme. The nonprofit platform has raised more than $40 million for indie bookstores since its launch in January 2020. CEO Andy Hunter said Bookshop.org became essential to the survival of bookstores without an online presence during the pandemic and has flourished ever since. Its 2025 revenue will be approximately $70 million, a 55% increase over 2024, and it donates 10% of all profits to participating bookstores twice a year (last year, it donated a record total of $9.5 million). Romance book sales make up a significant portion of Bookshop.org’s revenue and are among the top three selling categories each month. Another big sales driver is e-books. The company started offering e-books in 2025 and now accounts for more than 5% of its revenue.
