New books released in February that you should know about

Unfortunately, the most read books on Goodreads tend not to be diverse, by any definition of the word. So here are some new books coming out in February that deserve to be read by a wider audience.

Greedy by Callie Kazumi

This horror/psychological thriller novel is perfect for fans of: parasite and menu. This work follows Edward Cook, a British man living in Japan. He is in debt due to his gambling addiction and is desperate for a job. There, he ends up working as a cook for Hazeline Yamamoto, a reclusive woman who lives in a remote mountain lodge. Hazeline is a certified gourmet with a special taste, but Edward is horrified when he learns what Hazeline actually does and what he wants Edward to do. —Emily Martin

Initially, I thought readers who picked up this book because of the movie would be disappointed (and confused) by how different the book was, but since the movie’s announcement, the average rating has actually improved. It was read by about 76,000 Goodreads users this month, with an average rating of 3.9.

Hot Rivalry by Rachel Reid

Its amazing popularity is fierce rivalry TV show adaptations can’t be overstated and we’re all anxiously awaiting season two. What better way to kill time than by picking up the book that inspired you? This month it was read by about 79,000 Goodreads users, with an average rating of 4.3.

“The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans

This was the sleeper hit of 2025. Apparently it continues to grow in popularity based on word of mouth alone. This is the story of a woman who wrote letters every day of her life. When she receives a reply from someone from her past, she has to reevaluate the difficult times in her life and find a way to forgive. It was read by about 95,000 people this month with an average rating of 4.5.

“The Housemaid” Frieda McFadden

This is the first book in Frida McFadden’s Housemaid series, followed by The Housemaid’s Secrets and The Housemaid is Watching. It’s about a housekeeper who cleans for a wealthy family, takes care of children, and lives in an attic bedroom. She soon becomes embroiled in a dangerous family secret, but her employers may be underestimating her abilities. The movie version is currently in theaters. This month it was read by 106,000 Goodreads users with an average rating of 4.3.

McFadden’s latest thriller is about an advice columnist who coaches the women who write to him in dealing with lackluster and even violent husbands. After losing her job and realizing that her husband is keeping a secret from her, she decides it’s time to take her advice and take revenge. Approximately 172,000 Goodreads users read this book this month, with an average rating of 4.0.
