The Best Queer Books of 2025, According to All the Lists
As usual, this is a flawed process. I’m just picking the weirdest books that I know of, so I might have missed some. Please let me know if you know! That being said, it seems like only three queer books made it to four or more of the biggest lists, which is a bit disappointing.
Featured on 6 lists: “The Empire of Gladness” by Ocean Vuong (also on NPR’s list)
Featured on 5 lists: Baldwin: A Love Story by Nicholas Boggs (Also featured on NPR’s list)
Featured on 4 lists: Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid (also on NPR’s list)
Kelly also mentioned books that were featured on the “Best Books of the Year So Far” list released around July. Torrey Peters’ Stag Dance appeared on two of these mid-year lists, but not on the year-end list. The River Has Roots by Amal El Mortal has appeared on two mid-year lists and two year-end lists.
