A nice school cafeteria on Friday
It’s Friday. It’s Halloween. Read something that will warm up your shells and get you in the festive spirit. Jami Attenberg writes about attending the Scholastic Book Fair hosted by her online group writing accountability project #1000wordsofSummer. Through sponsorship, students at bilingual school Esperanza Academy received a large quantity of books and enjoyed the book fair. My colleague Danica Ellis writes about the inequalities of school book fairs. Attenberg’s project is one small but wonderful way to get books into the hands of more children. Here you can hear Attenberg talk about organizing a book fair where every child takes home a book.

Happy Halloween!
The day has finally arrived. Here are some great books and fun quizzes to have in your Halloween book bag.
What do you need for a good read in October? You need some pumpkin spice romance, but you also need thrillers and horror novels to get your heart racing. There’s nothing wrong with adding werewolves or vampires. This is pretty much the top 5 most read books for October on Goodreads, but I think it’s a shame that the top 50 list doesn’t include horror.
Before we get into the top five, let’s talk about some of the more notable new releases released in October.
