The Best (and Worst) Queer Books I Read in June
First, I finished burying my bones in the midnight soil of Ve Schwab for a book podcast with Rebecca Sinski and Vanessa Diaz. This was my first VE Schwab book and I really enjoyed it! Endured the “toxic lesbian vampire” pitch. We also had a great time talking about it with Vanessa and Rebecca.
In-person Queer Book Club I choose two spirit journeys: an autobiography of the elders of lesbian Ojibwaklee by Ma-nee Chacaby. I’m really happy to finally pick it up. The writing is extremely true and sometimes jarring, but the content is unforgettable. Ma-nee Chacaby has experienced a lot in her life, and her ability to continue to show up for people is incredible. I would definitely recommend it.
For another queer inperson book club (he said he had a lot of reading obligation this month!), I read the Wild Construction Poems sal in Becky Chambers. I love queer cozy fantasy so when I finally got this extremely unpopular, cozy sci-fi book, I always thought I would love it. Surprisingly, I wasn’t a huge fan. I think it would be a great graphic novel or film, but the parable stories didn’t connect with me.
Another of my low lights on Reading Month was being able to fix Ray Wilde’s girlfriend. This is a horrifying novel about the toxic relationship between two women. I liked the premise, but “nightmare logic” (as the blurb says) was a bit more for me. But many other readers loved it!
I read the second volume of the man she was interested in. I’ve talked about it before so I just say I’m definitely continuing the series.

For all the book podcasts, I read the original by Nell Stevens, a queer historical novel book with Gothic elements. I felt I would become a fan of Nell Stevens’ writing, and I was right. This story about the family curse of 1899, perhaps the heirs of the absorber, and the strangeness, was fascinating. You can hear my full thoughts on the July 1st episode!
Then I was brought to Slayer by Christine Russo and Jenny Owen Youngs. Buffer vampire slayers Podcast. I really enjoyed that podcast, so when I first started the book, I thought I had already heard most of these stories. But as that continued, I saw more closely at their divorce and how difficult it is to continue working together on the podcasts throughout it. It views the painful periods of their lives vulnerable. Obviously, if you hear it Bufferingyou should read this – and you Buffy Fans who aren’t, let’s start there!
Now I am about to complete my final reading duties for the month. I don’t usually participate, but I did see it A terrifying little shop During preparation, I want to make it in time. I’m just starting out and hope to finish it by the end of the month.
I don’t know what I’m reading next. I have a boyfriend, vol. 4I’m excited to be coming out of the library now. This is a very cute (almost too cute) M/M/M graphic novel I’ve been reading a great time. I also want to quickly reach the Hijabu Butch Blues of Ramiya H.
