Summary: Eliza Sheridan is at her wits’ end with her husband, Richard. Not only did he uproot her and their daughter Mara’s lives for his career, but he also hasn’t honored the one thing he promised before moving to Dublin: that he’d make more time for his wife and daughter.

So when Eliza receives an anonymous photo of Richard with another woman, she’s just about ready to file for divorce. As a last resort, she pays a visit to a marriage therapist, Ms. Early, who Eliza quickly learns is a bit…alternative in her approach. As their sessions unfold, Ms. Early spurs her on to commit a series of vengeful acts against Richard—each more bizarre than the last—all in the name of “re-training” her husband. But when therapy takes a risky turn, suspicions grow and alliances shift… How far is Eliza willing to go to save her marriage?

We can’t help it if we have a penchant for other people’s juicy drama. And The Marriage Vendetta is loaded with it from start to finish. Eliza first receives a photo of her husband Richard at a hotel with another woman and can only assume he’s having an affair. Her marriage therapist suggests that she try all these unorthodox ways of “re-training” him. By the end, Eliza’s suspicions lead her to do things she never thought she could do, changing both their careers and family life for good.

Now let’s talk about The Marriage Vendetta’s main character, Eliza Sheridan, She was a child piano prodigy who learned how to play from her father. Eliza went on to win several awards and honors, even getting an album recording offer. When she abruptly canceled her European tour, she threw herself into motherhood and raising her daughter Mara. And she didn’t play again. Until years later, when she daringly proves her talent to the world once again.

Ms. Early’s mysterious identity comes to light at the very end of The Marriage Vendetta. Not only that, but we also find out the main couple was inspired by a real-life story and reimagined to modern times. Knowing this just makes the novel even more engaging and important. So many women can relate and empathize with Eliza’s exact situation. Eliza ultimately found the strength to pursue her ideal, most peaceful life for her and her daughter. We hope other readers don’t settle for any less.

With our penchant for drama and a good comeback story, Caroline Madden’s debut novel, The Marriage Vendetta, checks all our boxes!
