Among them, 19-year-old Hai stands on a bridge one summer night and is ready to jump when an elderly widow Grajena, who has been hit by dementia, speaks to him to go on another path. So the pair’s journey begins together, involving Hai becoming Grajena’s caretaker and he considers himself and his place in his community. Zooming out reveals what it means to live in America’s margins and the foundations of this society, such as loneliness, love and labor.
