Tribal communities at risk of losing their libraries

The hits continue to come. More than 100 libraries on U.S. tribal lands are at risk of closure as Doge has ended Congress-appointed grants that make up the majority of its budget. The affected libraries learned of the Cycle Central cuts when they received a letter from Associate Secretary Keith Sonderling, who is now director of the Museum and Library Services Institute. The notice indicates that “your grants are unfortunately not in line with agency priorities and no longer serve the interests of the US,” and that “IMLS is reusing funding allocations in new directions to promote the president’s agenda.” There was no question that Project 2025 is actually an administrative agenda. The Heritage Foundation, which published this document, has been calling for the closure of IML for many years.
