
The Oscar Nominations Are Out—7 of 10 of the Best Picture Nominations Are Adaptations
The 2025 Oscar nominations were just announced this morning after being postponed twice due to the Los Angeles wildfires. To date, the fire has destroyed approximately 40,000 acres, more than 14,000 buildings, and killed 28 people. This year’s Oscars ceremony will pay tribute to Los Angeles, with the Academy donating $1 million to wildfire relief efforts.
As for the awards ceremony itself, most of the films submitted to Best Picture are adapted into films, but not just books. conclave (Screenplay: Peter Straughan) is an adaptation of the 2017 Conclave by Robert Harris.
Emilia Perez (Screenplay by Jacques Audiard, in collaboration with Thomas Bidegain, Lea Misius, Nicola Rivecchi) is based on the opera of the same name, which was inspired by the 2018 novel. listen Written by Boris Lazon.

nickel boys (Screenplay: Ramel Ross & Jocelyn Burns) is based on the novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead.
